Tropea and Pizzo Calabro
Located on the shore of the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia, Pizzo Calabro is another of Calabria's wonders. This colourful medieval town is one of the most beautiful and best-known places in the region, with narrow streets and small squares.
- You will visit the Murat Castle. The castle became famous because Joachim Murat was the brother-in-law and comrade-in-arms of Napoleon Bonaparte. The imposing fortress was built in 1486 by Ferdinand of Aragon, but after Joachim Murat's execution in 1815 it took his name.
- Near the town there is also an unusual sight - the Piedigrotta Church, carved into the rock. You will reach it by a picturesque tourist train, which after the visit will take you straight back to the coach.
- During your stay you will have the chance to try the famous local hand-made ice cream Tartufo di Pizzo. In Italian “tartufo” means truffle, but there are no truffles in the ice cream - the name comes from its truffle-like shape. Inside, a pleasant surprise awaits you - a liquid and extremely tasty filling.
- At the end of the visit you can enjoy a stroll through the town's narrow streets and take some time for shopping.
- Next you will visit Tropea, known as “the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea” and rightly one of the most popular tourist destinations in Calabria. The town is first mentioned in the first century in the writings of Pliny the Elder. From the town's terrace, set on a cliff above the sea, there is a magnificent panorama and a lovely view of the church of Santa Maria dell'Isola.
- The most impressive building in the historic centre is the town's cathedral, built during Norman rule. It holds valuable works of art, including the image of the Madonna di Romania, patron saint of Tropea, who is believed to have saved the townspeople many times from earthquakes and other disasters.

- After breakfast we head for Gerace - the medieval jewel of Calabria. The fortress town lies at 500 m above sea level with panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and is considered one of the 100 most beautiful medieval villages in Italy.
- Legend has it that its name comes from the Greek word hierax - “hawk”, the bird that, according to tradition, showed the right place to found the town. Gerace is also called “the holy city”, because in the past it had over 100 churches and monasteries. Today about 17 significant church buildings remain, among them the majestic Norman cathedral - one of the largest in Southern Italy.
