Tour of the Italian Lakes - Flight from Varna 2027

Departure from Varna Airport on a direct Wizz Air flight. Arrival at Bergamo airport. Transfer to Arona and check-in at the Atlantic 4* hotel. Overnight stay.

Option of a full-day additional excursion to Lake Maggiore and the Borromean Islands - one of the most picturesque and romantic lakes in Northern Italy.

Our first stop is Stresa - a charming resort town whose name has for centuries been associated with refinement, music and art. Then we take a boat to the Borromean Islands, once owned by the noble Borromeo family. Isola Bella is a true Baroque jewel, transformed from a rock into an elegant palace complex. We will visit the magnificent palace of the Borromeo family, whose richly decorated Baroque halls and terraced gardens impress with their refinement and panoramic views of the lake. The gardens are a true masterpiece of Italian Baroque art - with fountains, statues and exotic plants. We then continue to Isola dei Pescatori - “the Fishermen's Island” - and in the afternoon to Isola Madre, the largest and greenest of the three islands. At its centre stands the elegant palace of the Borromeo family, now a museum. Visitors can enjoy stylish interiors from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, fine furniture, tapestries, a collection of antique weapons and the famous antique puppet theatres preserved from the days of aristocratic entertainment. The palace is surrounded by an impressive botanical garden, known for its rare plants from all over the world - colourful camellias, palms and freely roaming peacocks and pheasants - a true natural idyll that makes the island one of the most romantic places on Lake Maggiore. Then we return to Stresa, where you will have time to stroll along the waterfront, have a coffee overlooking the water or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the lake. Return to the hotel.

Option of a half-day additional excursion to Lake Orta. Small and hidden among the hills west of Lake Maggiore, it is often called “the secret pearl of Northern Italy” for its unspoilt beauty and romantic atmosphere.

We will visit the little town of Orta San Giulio, whose historic centre looks like a postcard - narrow cobbled lanes, colourful façades and views of the crystal-clear waters of the lake. This is followed by a ride on a tourist train up to the Sacro Monte di Orta - a hill dedicated to the life of St Francis of Assisi. This UNESCO World Heritage Site impresses with twenty small chapels set in the forest and decorated with frescoes and terracotta figures recreating scenes from the saint's life. The walk takes about 45 to 60 minutes and offers a magnificent panoramic view of Lake Orta and the surrounding mountains. Next comes a short boat trip to the small, mystical island of San Giulio - a place steeped in silence and legend. Here stands the imposing Basilica of San Giulio, which keeps the relics of the saint who brought Christianity to this region as early as the fourth century. We will walk the famous “Way of Silence” (Il Percorso del Silenzio) - a stone path that circles the island and invites visitors to immerse themselves in calm, contemplation and harmony. The visit to the island takes about 45-50 minutes. Departure back to Orta, where you will have free time for lunch. Return to the hotel.

Como is one of the most iconic places in Northern Italy, combining historical heritage with Italian refinement. Como is a town nestled between the lake and the Alps, famous for its luxurious atmosphere and elegant architecture. On our walk we will see the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta - one of the masterpieces of Northern Italian Gothic - and the picturesque Piazza del Duomo, surrounded by cafés and boutiques. We continue with a panoramic drive along the lake shore to Tremezzo. Then we take a ferry to Bellagio, often called “the pearl of Como”. Set where the three arms of the lake meet, Bellagio impresses with its narrow cobbled lanes, boutiques with local products and romantic views of the Alps. You will have free time for lunch and a stroll. Return to the hotel.

Today we enjoy a trip that combines Italian charm with Swiss elegance. Our first stop is the picturesque town of Varese, at the foot of the Alps. It is known for its green parks, aristocratic villas and the sacred complex of the Sacro Monte di Varese, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will stroll through the old lanes and enjoy the atmosphere of this calm and elegant town, often called “the garden city”. Then we continue to Lugano, which welcomes us with typically Swiss orderliness but also an Italian spirit. Set on the shore of Lake Lugano, the town impresses with elegant boutiques, a palm-lined waterfront promenade and a picturesque old town. You will have time for a stroll around Piazza della Riforma and the chance to enjoy stunning views of the lake and the mountains. Return to the hotel.

After breakfast we leave for Milan - the dynamic capital of Lombardy and one of the most elegant cities in Italy, where history, fashion and art intertwine in perfect harmony. On arrival we begin with a panoramic tour of the city, during which we will see some of its best-known sights: the imposing Duomo Cathedral, one of the most majestic Gothic churches in the world; the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II - a symbol of refined style and luxury, linking the cathedral with La Scala opera house; and the impressive Sforza Castle, once the residence of the influential Sforza family. You will feel the pulse of modern Milan as you stroll through the Quadrilatero della Moda - the fashion district, where the windows of world brands alternate with small designer boutiques and cosy cafés. This is followed by free time for lunch, shopping or a stroll on your own. Return to the hotel.
